Mongolia is a landlocked country located between Russia and China, known for its vast open landscapes, rich nomadic heritage, and deep historical significance. With a history shaped by the great Mongol Empire and centuries old traditions, Mongolia offers a unique blend of ancient culture and modern development.
The country is renowned for its dramatic natural scenery, including expansive steppe grasslands, deserts, mountains, and pristine wilderness. Despite its low population density, Mongolia has made significant progress in education, healthcare, and international cooperation, and it plays an increasingly active role in regional and global initiatives.
Ulaanbaatar, the capital and largest city, is home to nearly half of the country’s population and serves as its political, economic, and cultural center. The city combines modern infrastructure with traditional culture, offering international-standard hotels, conference facilities, diverse dining options, and vibrant cultural attractions.
Visitors to Mongolia often highlight the country’s strong sense of hospitality, safety, and openness. Whether exploring historic sites, experiencing traditional music and cuisine, or engaging with its dynamic professional community, Mongolia offers a memorable and enriching experience for international guests.
Health and Medical Services
Mongolia has a well-established healthcare system, with major hospitals, private clinics, and pharmacies available in Ulaanbaatar. International-standard medical services are accessible, and English is commonly spoken in private hospitals and clinics. Delegates are advised to carry personal medications and appropriate travel health insurance. The Congress Organizing Committee will provide on-site support and emergency contact information to ensure prompt assistance if needed.
Climate and What to Wear
The SIOP Asia 2026 Congress will take place in late June, when Mongolia experiences mild to warm summer weather. Daytime temperatures in Ulaanbaatar typically range from 18–25°C, while evenings can be cooler. Delegates are encouraged to bring light layers, a jacket for evenings, comfortable walking shoes, and sun protection. Weather conditions are generally dry, though occasional rain showers may occur.
Cultural Etiquette and Local Customs
Mongolia is known for its warm hospitality and respect for tradition. Delegates will find the local community friendly and welcoming. A few simple cultural courtesies are appreciated:
